Photo Report The photographic report commissioned by the Studio of María Moreno and Antonio López to the UMFotografía studio, shows the rooms of the retrospective exhibition "Antonio López" that took place at the Bancaja Foundation in Valencia between September 24, 2020 and February 28, 2021. The exhibition dedicated two rooms to show a careful selection of work by María Moreno in which her career was traversed through different periods, as well as themes. It was the first time that this couple of artists exhibited jointly without the work of other creators.

A Retrospective of María Moreno’s Work The Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism (MUREC) in Almería is presenting the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to María Moreno. For the first time, visitors will be able to view a wide selection of 69 of her works, which showcase her contribution to contemporary realism. More info The exhibition brings together both drawings and paintings, most of which are on display in the temporary exhibition gallery, whilst a few are in the gallery dedicated to Madrid Realism. Whilst the first gallery traces María’s career and her evolution from a darker style of painting towards one full of light from the 1970s onwards, the second allows visitors to appreciate her work within the context of her generation and the group of friends who practised figurative art. The works on display include pieces from foreign collections that have never before been seen in Spain, as well as several from both private and institutional collections in Spain. To complement the exhibition, a small selection of works by Antonio López in which María Moreno features prominently is on display in another space, where visitors can also watch a short documentary. Exhibitions Exhibitions List Exhibitions Exhibitions ‘MARÍA MORENO, TOWARDS THE ESSENCE OF LIGT’, THE FIRST RETROSPECTIVE SHOW OF THE PAINTERMARÍA MORENO The Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism (MUREC) in Almería is dedicating its first retrospective exhibition to María Moreno. Through a selection of eighty works, visitors can trace her entire career, from her early days to her latest pieces. The exhibition includes both drawings and paintings, the two artistic media she employed throughout her career. As you walk through the exhibition, you can see how María moved from creating dark works to embracing light, which is particularly striking in her views of streets and gardens. Several works from foreign collections, which are among her finest pieces, are being shown in Spain for the first time. The exhibition offers the opportunity to see her artistic development, as well as a small selection of works by her husband, the artist Antonio López, featuring her. It will be open from 12 June until 4 October 2026. MORE INFO `HARMONY OF CULTURES: WHERE SPANISH AND CHINESE ART MEET´ SHOWN AT THE SAN MARCOS CENTRE, TOLEDO On May 20, the San Marcos Cultural Center will open the exhibition “Harmony of Cultures: Where Spanish and Chinese Art Meet.” The group exhibition will bring together works by contemporary figurative artists from both countries. Among the Spanish artists are leading figures in contemporary realism, such as Antonio López, María Moreno, Francisco López, Isabel Quintanilla, Julio López, and Carmen Laffón. THE IBERDROLA COLLECTION The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum presents a wide selection of contemporary works from Iberdrola’s collection, ‘Paralelos y Meridianos’, in an exhibition bearing the same title. As well as marking the company’s 125th anniversary, this exhibition offers an opportunity to explore the consistent evolution of this collection, which the group has been building up for over twenty years. The exhibition features a selection of 138 contemporary pieces from the 400 that make up the collection. Among the 138 selected works is María Moreno’s painting, Jardín de Poniente 3, from the year 2000. The exhibition begins with two views of Bilbao, still in progress, which Antonio López is painting from the Iberdrola Tower in Bilbao. The exhibition will be open from 29 April to 30 August 2026. ANTONIO LÓPEZ TORRES, MARÍA MORENO BLASCO AND ANTONIO LÓPEZ GARCÍA" AT THE LES BERNARDES CULTURAL CENTRE, GIRONA On the 13th of February, the Casa de Cultura Les Bernardes in Gerona will open a collective exhibition bringing together the work of three artists from the same family: Antonio López Torres, María Moreno and Antonio López. The exhibition will feature works that explore the themes of light, space and atmosphere. A selection of carefully chosen pieces will be on display, including several recent paintings and sculptures by Antonio López. MORE INFO "INFINITA REALIDAD" AT THE PEDRO TORRECILLA EXHIBITION HALL IN BURGOS A new exhibition dedicated to the Spanish figuration developed in Madrid since the late 1950s has been presented at the Pedro Torrecilla Exhibition Hall in Burgos. It has been jointly organised by Ibercaja Banco and Fundación Círculo Burgos, under the direction of the curator María Toral. Most of the ten artists represented in the exhibition are those known by critics as the “Realists of Madrid”: Isabel Quintanilla, Amalia Avia, María Moreno, Esperanza Parada, Francisco López, Julio López and Antonio López. They have been accompanied by other artists who also trained at the same time and who have practised figuration, in different ways, during their careers: Carmen Laffón, José Hernández and Cristóbal Toral. Among the selection of forty-seven pieces, five paintings by María Moreno from her later years can be seen. Some of her most recurrent themes are included: two still lifes, a garden and two oil paintings of flowers. All of them within her palette of varied and luminous tones. In these works, the role of light on the elements represented is of great importance. The exhibition will be open to the public from 13 September to 10 November 2024. She trained at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, which she entered in 1954 to study Fine Arts, specializing in painting. Although both have been interested in the same motifs, which they have approached from their fondness for reality, each of them has developed their work individually, thus acquiring their own style and vision. Since the seventies of the last century, the work of María Moreno began to be exhibited and became part of several international collections. The exhibitions held since in Germany and the UK dedicated to the group of artists who devoted themselves to the New Figuration in Madrid at the time had a great impact. Her solo exhibitions have been less numerous, but have had a major impact on the knowledge of her work by national and international collectors. In 1973 she exhibited at the gallery of Ernst Wuthenow in Frankfurt, who also organized several relevant shows dedicated to the Spanish realism practiced by María and some of her colleagues. In 1990, the Parisian gallery owner Claude Bernard convinced the painter to exhibit in his gallery despite her reservations; this exhibition garnered rave reviews from audiences and critics. In recent years, her work has been part of several group shows, being especially significant the one held in 1991 at the Royal Academy of Madrid, Otra realidad. Compañeros en Madrid (Another Reality. Partners in Madrid), as well as the recent Realistas de Madrid (Realists of Madrid) held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (February-May 2016). The first was key in the understanding of the Madrilenian figuration that emerged in the fifties within the context of the art that was done by other contemporaries and colleagues; while the latter has offered the opportunity to put the work of these artists into perspective after having developed lengthy careers. The subjects of her works, which are always intimately linked to her, encompass landscapes, in which Madrid has a prominent place, but also of La Mancha; portraits of people from her environment from her first years; interiors, which have been present since the beginning of her career; a few still lifes; gardens and many flowers, for which she developed a special predilection from the nineties. CERVANTES PRAGUE, 11/10/2017 TO 10/02/2018 The exhibition The Poetry of Abstraction and Figurative Painting was opened at the Cervantes Institute in Prague, which consists of 35 works by some of the most representative artists of Madrid's figurative and abstraction painting of the fifties and sixties of the 20th century. Works by members of the El Paso group, among whom were Antonio Saura, Luis Feito, Martín Chirino or Rafael Canogar among others; but also paintings by other abstract and figurative artists such as Lucio Muñoz, Isabel Quintanilla, María Moreno or Antonio López. These last ones although they were not part of any artistic group, maintained ties of friendship and artistic connection, being grouped later by the critic. VIEW MORE INTERPRETED REALITY, SHOW IN FUENLABRADA, MADRID On September 21st, 2017 the exhibition "Interpreted Reality" was inaugurated at the Tomás y Valiente Art Center of Fuenlabrada, which featured works by the top representative artists of the New Spanish Figuration, including a selection of works by Antonio López and María Moreno. News September 20, 2018 Inauguration of the exhibition Sequences of Reality On September 20th an exhibition devoted to contemporary figurative painting will be inaugurated at the Da2 center in Salamanca, where several works by María Moreno will be on display until the end of December. December 7, 2017 Screening of the documentary about María Moreno, La luz de Antonio On December 7th at 6:30 pm, the documentary about María Moreno, La luz de Antonio, will be screened at the Cervantes Institute in Prague as part of the series of documentaries scheduled on the occasion the exhibition The Poetics of Abstraction and the figuration, which can be visited in this institution until next February 10th. March 8, 2017 The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum Screens the Documentary La luz de Antonio On the occasion of "Women's Day", the documentaries on two of the most important figurative painters of contemporary Spanish art, María Moreno and Amalia Avia, will be shown at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
