Exhibitions Exhibitions List Exhibitions Exhibitions "Infinita realidad" at the Pedro Torrecilla exhibition hall in Burgos A new exhibition dedicated to the Spanish figuration developed in Madrid since the late 1950s has been presented at the Pedro Torrecilla Exhibition Hall in Burgos. It has been jointly organised by Ibercaja Banco and Fundación Círculo Burgos, under the direction of the curator María Toral. Most of the ten artists represented in the exhibition are those known by critics as the “Realists of Madrid”: Isabel Quintanilla, Amalia Avia, María Moreno, Esperanza Parada, Francisco López, Julio López and Antonio López. They have been accompanied by other artists who also trained at the same time and who have practised figuration, in different ways, during their careers: Carmen Laffón, José Hernández and Cristóbal Toral. Among the selection of forty-seven pieces, five paintings by María Moreno from her later years can be seen. Some of her most recurrent themes are included: two still lifes, a garden and two oil paintings of flowers. All of them within her palette of varied and luminous tones. In these works, the role of light on the elements represented is of great importance. The exhibition will be open to the public from 13 September to 10 November 2024. EXHIBITION AT QUAN SHANSHI ART CENTER, HANGZHOU, CHINA From November 29, 2023 to March 31, 2024, an exhibition of reproductions of works can be seen in the hall of the Shanghai Middle Longhua subway station at exits 1 and 2 of the station (lines 7 and 12). significant works of Antonio López and several Spanish realist painters of his and subsequent generations. EXHIBITION AT QUAN SHANSHI ART CENTER, HANGZHOU, CHINA A group exhibition of contemporary Chinese and Spanish figurative artists has just opened at the Quan Shanshi Art Center in Hangzhou where it will remain until November 28. It includes several works by María Moreno (in the image on the left), as well as Antonio López and other important Spanish figurative artists. This exhibition will travel in December to the National Grand Theater of China, in Beijing, where it can be visited between December 5, 2023 and January 5, 2024. MORE INFO ARTISTS AND MODELS. EXHIBITION AT THE CANAL FOUNDATION A new exhibition by the Canal de Madrid Foundation explores the relationships between female and male artists, and their partners through their art. The exhibition is curated by Rosario Sarmiento. These relationships were fruitful in some cases, supporting their lives and creativity, and destructive in others. María Moreno's Antonio Tumbado is one of her largest paintings, which she created during the filming of Victor Erice's film El sol del membrillo, and which is now being exhibited for the first time. MORE INFO "MIMESIS|REPRESENTATIONAL ART 2023", EXHIBITION AT THE MEAM IN BARCELONA The MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art) in Barcelona presents "Mimesis| Representational Art 2023", a group exhibition on the contemporary international figuration scene. MORE INFO EXHIBITION "THE ERNESTO WUTHENOW COLLECTION" AT THE LEANDRO NAVARRO GALLERY These days, the Leandro Navarro gallery in Madrid is offering an exhibition on the collection of Ernesto Wuthenow, a German businessman who was a founding member of one of the first Spanish art galleries, the Juana Mordó Gallery. This collector bought the work of various contemporary Spanish artists, both abstract and realist, including María Moreno. Wuthenow helped Spanish artists from the Juana Mordó gallery to present their work in several exhibitions in Germany. From November 10, 2022, to January 5, 2023. MORE INFO EXHIBITION "INFINITE REALITY" AT THE GOYA MUSEUM IN ZARAGOZA From June 22 to September 18, 2022, the Goya Museum in Zaragoza hosts the collective exhibition "Infinite reality". It is devoted to various figurative artists who developed their careers in the second half of the 20th and the 21st centuries. In this selection are included some paintings by María Moreno, as well as works by Antonio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Francisco López, Julio López, Esperanza Parada, Carmen Laffón, Amalia Avia, Cristóbal Toral and José Hernández. MORE INFO EXHIBITION "ANTONIO LÓPEZ" IN BANCAJA FOUNDATION, VALENCIA From September 24, 2020 to January 24, 2021, a very selected selection of some of the most important works painted by María Moreno during her career will be seen at this show. They are in a room dedicated exclusively to his work within the retrospective exhibition "Antonio López" at the Bancaja Foundation in Valencia. Exquisite drawings accompany the paintings from different periods of Maria's career. MORE INFO EXHIBITION SEDUCIDOS POR LA REALIDAD The traveling exhibition, Seduced by reality, arrives at the Las Claras Cultural Center in Murcia; where it will be from May 17 to July 7. Varying some of the works included in its selection, it showcases the work of several important figurative artists for the development of realism and figurative art in the last fifty years. Among them, María Moreno, is present with some works of her production of recent years. MORE INFO EXHIBITION "ANTONIO LÓPEZ", MONASTERIO DE SANTO DOMINGO DE SILOS From April 26 to October 31, 2019, Antonio López's monographic exhibition is displayed in the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, Burgos, around the spirituality and transcendence that can be found in some of his works on flowers and children. In addition, three works by María Moreno are displayed, cennected with this sensitivity and light as its driver. CERVANTES IN PRAGUE, 10/11/2017- 10/02/2018 The exhibition The poetics of abstraction and figurative art was inaugurated at the Cervantes Institute in Prague, which consists of 35 works by some of the most representative artists of Madrid's figurative art and abstraction of the fifties and sixties of the 20th century. Works by members of the El Paso group can be contemplated, among whom were Antonio Saura, Luis Feito, Martín Chirino or Rafael Canogar among others; but also paintings by other abstract and figurative artists such as Lucio Muñoz, Isabel Quintanilla, María Moreno or Antonio López. These last ones although they were not part of any artistic group, maintained ties of friendship and artistic connection, being grouped later by the critic. MORE INFO REALIDAD INTERPRETADA, ART SHOW AT CEART, FUENLABRADA On September 21, 2017, "Interpreted Reality" was inaugurated at the Tomás y Valiente Arts Center in Fuenlabrada. This was an exhibition that featured works by the top representatives of the New Spanish Figurative Art, including a selection of works by Antonio López and María Moreno. News September 12, 2024 New exhibition in Burgos dedicated to Spanish Realism: Infinite Reality The Círculo Burgos Foundation and the Ibercaja bank have organised an exhibition to pay tribute to Spanish realism, which began to develop in the 1950s and 1960s. The Pedro Torrecilla exhibition hall in Burgos houses 47 works by ten artists: Amalia Avia, Julio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Francisco López, Jorge Hernández, Esperanza Parada, Cristóbal Toral, Carmen Laffón, Antonio López and María Moreno. It can be visited free of charge between 13 September and 10 November 2024. For more information, click here . November 29, 203 to March 31, 2024 Exhibition "Antonio López and the Masters of Spanish Realism" in Shanghai On November 29, 2023, the exhibition "Antonio López and the Masters of Spanish Realism" was inaugurated at the Middle Longhua metro station in Shanghai. It presents 46 reproductions of works by Antonio López, Miguel Ángel Argüello, Amalia Avia, Francisco López, José María Mezquita, Isabel Quintanilla, Julio Vaquero and María Moreno, of whom eight works are included. The Chinese public will have the chance to learn about the evolution of contemporary figurative art in Spain from some of its best representatives. This exhibition is co-organized by the Cervantes Institute, the Spanish Embassy in China and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, with the collaboration of Turespaña, the advice of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum of Madrid and the Antonio López and María Moreno Studio . From February 15 to 26, 2023 Exhibition "Childhood" by Antonio López at El Corte Inglés de Preciados, Madrid An exhibition devoted to Children is displayed in the window shops of El Corte Inglés on Preciados Street in Madrid from February 15 to 26, 2023. This exhibition includes several sculptures, and a few oil paintings, on this theme by Antonio López and a pair by María Moreno. This project is part of the ARCO art fair in its 2023 edition. April 12, 2024 Inauguration of the exhibition Beyond Realism. Figurative art from China and Spain In honour of 50 years of bilateral relations between China and Spain, the Royal Palace of Madrid has opened an exhibition that will run until May 26, 2024. It is an exhibition of figurative works by 99 contemporary Chinese and Spanish artists called "Beyond Realism. Figurative art from China and Spain." The exhibition offers an overview of figurative art, not simply realism, practised in both countries over the last fifty years. The exhibition opens with a selection of paintings and drawings by Antonio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Francisco López, María Moreno, Julio López, Amalia Avia, Isabel Baquedano and Carmen Laffón. March 23 to April 10, 2023 Exhibition of Antonio López at the Modelo prison, with works by María Moreno For only three weeks, you can visit an exhibition of Antonio López in a unique location: the Modelo prison in Barcelona. A small selection of his works occupies several cells in gallery 5 of this former prison, now converted into a cultural centre. In one of these cells, it is displayed a selection of children's heads made by the artist, including four by María Moreno. In them, she represented two of her grandchildren. This exhibition arises in the context of Antonio's collaboration with El Liceu for the concert of Franz Schubert's Winterreise in the same prison. This recital, which will only have three performances, is accompanied by a video in which, under the stage direction of Bárbara Lluch, images of works by Antonio López have been used. From December 13, 2022 12-hour interview with Antonio López on the Caixa Forum Plus platform On December 13, La Caixa Foundation launched a new free subscription platform for broadcasting cultural content: Caixa Forum Plus. This project aims to make quality content in cultural and scientific dissemination available to the general public in Spanish. March 15, 2024 Opening of the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism (MUREC) On March 15, the MUREC, a museum dedicated to contemporary Spanish realist art, was inaugurated. His works, among which there are paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings, cover the panorama of this artistic style in Spain from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. One of the fundamental nuclei is the work of the Realists of Madrid, among which there are several paintings and drawings by María Moreno, presented together with the works of her colleagues and friends: Antonio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Francisco López, Amalia Avia, Julio López and Esperanza Parada. This project is located in the Hospital de Santa María Magdalena in Almería capital, a 16th-century building restored for the occasion. February 23, 2023 Publication of Landscapes, with works by Antonio López, Antonio López Torres and María Moreno ARTIKA publishing house publishes the book Landscapes . You can contact us through this link:here . 23 to 27 February 2022 Painting by María Moreno at the ARCO fair During the ARCO 2022 fair, between February 23 and 27, María Moreno's painting, Entrada de casa (1980), can be seen at the Leandro Navarro gallery stand, having been exhibited in the first edition of the fair in 1982. Together with works by Isabel Quintanilla, Carmen Laffón and Amalia Avia, they will constitute a gallery tribute to realist art practiced by women. This year marks the 40th anniversary of ARCO, postponed in 2021 due to the pandemic evolution. 23 December 2020 Presentation of the catalogue of the exhibition of Antonio López and María Moreno On December 23, 2020, the catalogue of what has been the first joint exhibition of María Moreno and Antonio López, and which can still be visited, at the Bancaja Foundation in Valencia, comes to light. This exhibition began at the Cervantes Institute in Prague in November 2017. Thirty-five works by some of the most representative artists of the figurative art and abstraction practiced in Madrid in the fifties and sixties of the twentieth century can be seen in this exhibition. CERVANTES PRAGUE, 11/10/2017 TO 10/02/2018 The exhibition The Poetry of Abstraction and Figurative Painting was opened at the Cervantes Institute in Prague, which consists of 35 works by some of the most representative artists of Madrid's figurative and abstraction painting of the fifties and sixties of the 20th century. Works by members of the El Paso group, among whom were Antonio Saura, Luis Feito, Martín Chirino or Rafael Canogar among others; but also paintings by other abstract and figurative artists such as Lucio Muñoz, Isabel Quintanilla, María Moreno or Antonio López. These last ones although they were not part of any artistic group, maintained ties of friendship and artistic connection, being grouped later by the critic. VIEW MORE INTERPRETED REALITY, SHOW IN FUENLABRADA, MADRID On September 21st, 2017 the exhibition "Interpreted Reality" was inaugurated at the Tomás y Valiente Art Center of Fuenlabrada, which featured works by the top representative artists of the New Spanish Figuration, including a selection of works by Antonio López and María Moreno. . Exhibition at the Bancaja Foundation in Valencia. Photo Report The photographic report commissioned by the Studio of María Moreno and Antonio López to the UMFotografía studio, shows the rooms of the retrospective exhibition "Antonio López" that took place at the Bancaja Foundation in Valencia between September 24, 2020 and February 28, 2021. The exhibition dedicated two rooms to show a careful selection of work by María Moreno in which her career was traversed through different periods, as well as themes. It was the first time that this couple of artists exhibited jointly without the work of other creators.
